I HAD A DREAM
It is rare that I can remember my dreams. So much so that I once had a feeling that I didn’t dream. A friend mentioned that everyone dreams at some time while they sleep, it’s just that some people don’t remember their dreams.

STRIPPING QUILLS
Most fly tiers have stripped quills at one time or another. Each of us has our own favorite technique. Special situations sometimes require us to be flexible or creative with our methods, in order to achieve a certain desired result. I’d like to share with you some different methods of stripping quills that I’ve used over the years.

STUFFED PEPPERS “ITALIAN STYLE”
We serve this dish with mashed potatoes liberally sauced with the tomato/cream mixture.
The sour cream takes away the acidity of the dish and adds a very interesting/delicious taste sensation.
In (only) my opinion, THIS is a very tasty variation on an old standard. Try it, you'll like it!

HONESTY
Many moons ago I was involved with hands on fly-fishing education. I taught basic fly casting classes, gave fly tying instruction and I even taught a class at a community-based adult education program on the History of Fly Fishing. In later years I had a brief stint as a fly-fishing guide, but passed that rather onerous task on to my nephew who proved to be a far better guide than I could have aspired too.

IT'S ABOUT STUFF
I never in my life expected to be sorting through twenty years worth of stuff. I’m not talking about the furniture; it was pretty much a given that since there is already a complete household in Livingston Montana that it didn’t make much (if any) sense to haul another household back there and do what? Store it? Yah right, that isn’t going to happen, not in this lifetime.

THIRD TIME IS A CHARM
The phone rang as I was getting my Epi pen to head out the door to go fishing. A gentleman asked me when the next time I was going out fishing was going to be. His wife did not like him going out alone. When I stated I was heading out the door, he asked if I would come and fish one of his ponds with him. I am not the sort to turn down fishing a new pond.

FLASHABOU
Do you remember the first time you saw Flashabou, was it on the wall of your favorite fly shop or was it on a nymph or streamer? My first encounter with Flashabou occurred when a friend showed with a couple packages of this new material and asked if I had seen “this stuff”, I do not recall whether that was in 1982 or 1983. But I do remember thinking that this material will be used across the broad encompassing all types of fly types and fish species.

FACT AND PARENTHESIS
It’s so silly isn’t it? How we grown men take up trout fishing not simply to pursue trout but to find some place, some special place, where we feel at ease, a place to belong. God loves a man that smells of trout water and mountain meadows, cheap whiskey and branch water. Which way’s heaven? Follow the trail and keep close to the stream. – Arby Mulligan, Hymn No. 1 (the only hymn) of the Owl Creek Gap Church of Universal Harmony, in On The Spine of Time by Harry Middleton.

VISIBLE FUR ANT
Being extremely nearsighted I am always looking for ways to see small flies or flush floating terrestrials. Lefty Kreh mentioned the use of a crystal flash post in ADVANCED FLY FISHING TECHNIQUES. The idea of tying a synthetic post under the shank and bringing it up around the shank to minimize bulk came from a tutorial on Charley Cravens web site, Charley's fly box. The crystal flash post catches the light as the fly bobs along so that I get a glimpse of it every couple of seconds even when I can't see the body of the fly on the water.
