ARIZONA PEACOCK LADY

This fly was introduced to me by my friend Gemrod, I did some research on it and found many variations have been done to it. I tried to keep it as original as possible. Word has it that the fly is an effective little streamer in the mountainous area where Gemrod lives in Arizona. I want to thank him for the gentle prodding he gave me to tie it, because it’s also VERY effective here in the east.

Materials:

• Hook: 3906B Mustad sizes 10-18
• Thread: Black Danville 6/0
• Rib: Uni-gold/ silver tinsel #16
• Body: Natures Spirit peacock herl
• Hackle: Grizzly and furnace hen hackle
• Tail: Golden pheasant tippits

Tie in pheasant tippets 1/2 hook length

Make several wraps of grizzly hackle just in front of the tail.

Tie in tinsel so that the gold side will be up when wrapping fwd. At this time tie in 4 long peacock herls over the top of the hook shank to 1-2 hook eye lengths.

Twist the herl together to make a rope for increased strength and wind the herl forward to 2 hook eye lengths from the eye.

Counter-wrap the gold side of the tinsel forward and tieoff and tie in the furnace hen hackle and make 2-3 turns.

Whip finish and get out there and fish the fly.
