YELLOW LUMI DOLL FLY
Not sure if you all fish at night in the U.S.A. But here is a Doll Fly I call Jax Lumi Doll Fly I use a lot here in the Rotorua area of the North Islan
Night Fishing in the Rotorua Lakes will soon be coming into its own as the evenings draw in and the cold weather triggers the urge in the Rainbow Trout to head for the stream mouths in preparation for the trip upstream to ensure the future of their species.
It is at this time that the Yellow Lumi can be a very effective means of making contact with the fish mooching about looking for a feed.
Materials:
- Tail: Hot Orange Antron Wool under Yellow Sparkle Yarn teased and combed out
- Body: Aurora Skirt.
- Wing: Yellow Sparkle Yarn Teased and combed out.
- Beard: Six to eight strands of Opal Flash
- Head: Black tying thread
- Hook: Black Magic B6 to B12
- Thread: Black Polyester

Step 1 Wrap the hook shank with tight close turns of thread from the eye to the start of the bend, then back to a point ¼ of an inch from the eye

Step 2 Catch in the Orange tail material at this point

Step 3 Tie in the tail material securely on top of the hook shank

Step 4 Clip the tail to size approx half the body length and tidy up the tie off point

Step 5 Run the thread back to the tie off point and catch in the Yellow tail material

Step 6 Tie the yellow tail material in securely

Step 7 Clip the tail to length and tidy up the tie off point

Step 8 Run the thread back to the tie off point and tie in the yellow wing material

Step 9 Tie in the wing material securely on top of the hook shank. Leave it sticking out to the rear

Step 10 Tie in a strand of Aurora Skirt Lumo material

Step 11 Run the thread back to the tie off point and Half Hitch to keep it in position during the next step

Step 12 Wrap the Aurora strip in overlapping turns to the tie off point and secure well

Step 13 Pull the yellow wing material over the top of the body material and secure well. Try not to let the wing material pinch in at the rear by teasing it round the shank with your fingers before taking it forward

Step 14 Clip the excess material and tidy up the head area

Step 15 Turn the hook over in the vise and tie in six to eight strands of crystal or pearl flash for a beard

Step 16 Clip the beard to size and turn the fly back up in the vise

Step 17 Form a nice head and whip finish, clip the thread and apply head cement.
Step 18 Go Fish. You will need to flash up the Lumi. Use your torch or get an Ultra Violate light from your local fishing shop they are a bit pricy but well worth it.
If you use a Camera Flash Unit, mask the flash with your jacket or cap so as not to annoy your neighbors. Have Fun.
