A SMALLER BODKIN SUBSTITUTE

Steven Hohnstein- Apr 23, 2012

I am new to fly tying (1 year) and I found a good substitute when my bodkin is just a little too big. I found some pins with large plastic heads in my wife's sewing stuff. It turns out that they are cordage pins. They can be found at most fabric shops.

They are strong enough to pull out dubbing and small enough in diameter to put head cement on in very small drops. I have been able to divide the drop from a bodkin into 3 sometimes 4 smaller drops and put them onto flies without getting it all over everything else in the area.
