There have been many posts to the Bulletin Board here over the last several weeks
regarding teaching kids to tie flies.
This can at once be one of the most rewarding for us as adults and frustrating experiences
for kids. The main culprit? Cutting the thread on a sharp hook point.
If as soon as you mount the hook into the vice you will take a piece of Larva Lace, which is
hollow, and slide it onto the hook point just shy of the barb, you will shield the thread from
being cut by that sharp point.
The Larva Lace takes up a bare minimum of room and does not interfere with tying the fly.
The result, one heck of a lot more fun for those tiny, yet not quite coordinated fingers.
Teaching a kid to fish or tie is one of the best things you can ever do. Now get out there
and do it!
