Micro Fibbets are really neat materials with which to tail slow and still water flies. The come in
a range of colors to suit almost any pattern. They tie in easily, and support the offering well
on the water.
Typically we find these used on smaller patterns, but they can also be used on larger size flies.
They are not terribly expensive, but we can save some money for the flies we tie to fish. Save
the real Micro Fibbets for your oh…ah …smaller flies.
Next time you are in the dollar store looking for some new ideas to bring to the bench, look at
the paint section. Typically you will find several types of brushes hanging on the wall. You
want the brushes which are used for latex paint. They will not absorb water and swell the way
an oil brush will.
I have used in the photos here some rather heavy fibers in order that they might show up well in the
pictures. Tapered artist brushes are excellent for tying and are in fact almost the same size as the real
Micro Fibbets. You can often find these in a dollar store, or at a flea market. They too can be found
in some interesting colors.
Gee, when you are done painting the dining room, you can use your brush to tie some flies, but if you
tie your flies first, you won't have a brush to paint with. My what a shame that would be!
