So many times we hear a fellow tier lament that they had to learn to tie in some remote area
of the country where fly fishing let alone tying just were not local custom. Most of the pioneers
of the art in fact would probably be familiar with this scenario.
Today, most of us are located in fairly urban or suburban settings where kindred spirits are generally
in abundance. This is not to say that a significant number of tiers can not be found in sparsely
populated parts of the country, just that they are not so located in the numbers of long ago.
With the concentration of our populations and of fly fishers and tiers in particular, comes an
opportunity for us to interact which was previously unknown.
We meet at the local fly shop, on the stream, and occasionally at clubs.
While all of these are sources of knowledge perhaps none has the potential of the later.
Most clubs will have in residence experienced tiers who are quite willing to share their knowledge
and communicate the skills of the craft freely to others.
Prior to club meetings in many places, the fly tiers will gather perhaps an hour before the
meeting and sit at what are termed 'round tables' and tie. These round tables are a great
place to learn.
Just sitting and silently watching an accomplished tier will garner many useful tips and techniques.
Ask him or her a question and watch the delighted reaction as they give you their answer.

to give you the contact information in your area.
