Cover Your Hook Point
By George E. Emanuel

This weeks tying tip was sent to us by Mike Skoczen of Cleveland, OH. Mike ties a lot of bass bugs, but this will also work on saltwater flies, he offers this tip to help us avoid injury.

"One of the most common problems I have when tying larger flies, like bass bugs, is inadvertently impaling myself with the hook point as I pull the material back towards the bend of the hook."

"After a few times doing this I decided that my fingers had enough. I put a small piece of cork over the hook point to avoid testing the sharpness of the hooks in my bare flesh."

Thanks Mike, a very simple thing that we can all do when necessary.

Now where is my, ouch, cork?

If you have any tips or techniques, send them along, most of this material has been stolen from somebody, might as well steal your ideas too!~ George E. Emanuel (Chat Room Host Muddler)
