The recent topic on the Bulletin Board on stuck rods
got me thinking (Dangerous, I know.)
We use to shoot 3-D Archery and getting arrows out of the
foam 'critters" would really excercise your vocabulary.
The following picture is of two types of arrow pullers; cost
on these is only a couple of bucks each.

To use, just grasp in hand with one puller above and one below the
ferrule and twist and pull. They work great.
Note, this is for use on graphite and fiberglass rods, if you have
a stuck cane rod, you must pull straight out and NOT TWIST.
