The emerger is that stage in the insect's life
when it swims to the surface and floats there
while it climbs out of its wet suit to fly away.
Trout will often appear to rise rather casually
to this state of the hatch as if they know they
have a little extra time. The body of an emerger
should be tied slightly fatter (more like the
nymph body) and a good shade darker than the fully
emerged dun. Take as much care on the taper as
though it were a dry fly because the trout will
be looking up at this fly. ~ AK
