If you are like me, you always have at least
one string of lights that gives up the Christmas
ghost every year. The upside to this is a chance
to collect more tying material.
What I do is strip the insulation back 4 or 5 inches,
then cut off the wire with about half an inch of
insulation left on. In 10 minutes you can have a
collection of wire for when you sit down to tie up
next season's PT nymphs.
The remaining insulation keeps the strands neatly
bound together. In this string of lights, each
section has about ten strands of very fine copper
