Tying Salmon flies, I like using Peacock Swords for the tail.
The problem I have with Peacock Swords is they usually end up
pointing every which way except the right way. Finally I used
the method Frederick Halford used for his wings on the
Halford Basket.
I snip three or four (depending on the size of the hook) peacock
sword that are still attached to the stem.

Laying the attached peacock swords across the top of the hook
shank diagonally, I wrap the thread around the peacock swords,
then snip off the tag portion.

Big improvement and not that hard. At least they now all point in the
same direction - and that direction is the right one. ~ Steven H. McGarthwaite
