Peacock Swords
By Steven H. McGarthwaite

Tying Salmon flies, I like using Peacock Swords for the tail. The problem I have with Peacock Swords is they usually end up pointing every which way except the right way. Finally I used the method Frederick Halford used for his wings on the Halford Basket.

I snip three or four (depending on the size of the hook) peacock sword that are still attached to the stem.

Laying the attached peacock swords across the top of the hook shank diagonally, I wrap the thread around the peacock swords, then snip off the tag portion.

Big improvement and not that hard. At least they now all point in the same direction - and that direction is the right one. ~ Steven H. McGarthwaite
