Thread is a major material component in fly tying. There
are many different thickness of thread (3/0, 6/0, 8/0,...).
There are also other materials that would fall into the thread
category, Floss, Tinsel, Cord, and Thin Wire.
Most of the Thread, Floss, Tinsel, Cord and Thin Wire, can cost
about $2 or $3 considering the brand and type of material.
Adding up all the spools of thread (and other stuff) I have,
dawned on me, we are talking big money here!
I must have over 80 spools of assorted thread and stuff that
I have accumulated since I started tying flies about 4 years ago.
That gives me a grand total of over $200 of materials laying
around collecting dust and disappearing in the clutter that
happens with fly tying.

This weeks Tip is go to a Fabric Store, Sewing Store or Wally World,
and get some 'Thread Storage Containers.' The 'Thread Storage
Containers' I bought cost $6.99 each, and hold 40 thread bobbins.
The containers will keep your thread organized and free from
dust and dirt. It will be there when you need it and no
hunting around on your hands and knees to find it.
While you're there, look around, there is lots of other fly tying stuff you can use.
Please check out the Fly Tying Section, in the Bulletin Board, on FAOL.
If you have any questions, tips, or techniques; send them along.
Most of this material someone else thought of it before we did,
they just forgot to tell anyone about it. Or else we just forgot
about it, while learning something else. Let us share with
each other, all the things we know! ~ Steven H.
