Ronn Lucas Sr., was in the Chat Room at FAOL the other night.
And that caused my light bulb to turn on because of a technique
I learned while reading an article of his on the "Keep Tying"
website. (https://www.keeptying.com). The article is regarding
securing wings on Elk Hair Caddis. I found the technique
also useful in securing other bulky material (Squirrel Tail,
Buck Tail, ect) to the fly hook.
The technique is a basic "Loop de Loop," where you first
loosely wrap the thread around the hair wing.

Then securely wrap the thread around the shank of the hook. Dressing
the hook with thread helps keep everything in place.

This will keep the hair wing from shifting positions once placed.
Please check out the Fly Tying Section, on the
Bulletin Board, on FAOL too.
If you have any questions, tips, or techniques; send them along.
Someone else thought up most of this material before we did,
they just forgot to tell anyone about it. Or else we just
forgot about it, while learning something else. Let us
share with each other, all the things we know!
