The other weekend, I took a trip to the only fly shop in
the Twin Cities area that I had not visited yet. It was
about a 45 minute drive (People in Minnesota, don't measure
distance in miles, but in how long it takes to get there).
The store is Bentley's Outfitters, in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
Andy Roth, the store manager, welcomed me when I arrived
(they welcome everyone). It is a fully stock fly fishing
store, but I was there on a mission - for another article
for Tying Tips. They had what I was looking for, and that
is all the counts in my book.

While I was there, Andy told me about a new material he saw
at the Salt Lake City Show this year. Quick Descent Dub
by Hareline Dubbing Inc. I am very familiar with Hareline
and use many of their Products. But this was something new,
and I am glad Andy brought it to my attention.

This is a Wire Dubbing material that has the texture of
fine steel wool, yet in is easy to dub onto a thread.

It is very fine in texture and easy to handle.

I dubbed the whole hook with the material, backing up to
add in two black ostrich herls for the thorax.

Nice looking nymph and it will start sinking as soon
as it hit the water because there is no floating quality
to the dubbing. Bentley's Outfitter's had the Hairline
Dubbin in 8 colors (Gray, Caddis Green, Gold, Dark Olive,
Brown, Black, Silver, & Olive) and I bought all eight,
cost was $2.50 per packet. I think that is very reasonable.
I can also think of uses other than dubbing thread, this
dubbing has many other possibilities to it.
Thank You Andy Ross for this week's Tying Tip. ~Parnelli
Please check out the Fly Tying Section, on the
Bulletin Board, on FAOL too.
If you have any questions, tips, or techniques; send them along.
Someone else thought up most of this material before we did,
they just forgot to tell anyone about it. Or else we just
forgot about it, while learning something else. Let us
share with each other, all the things we know!
