In My Room, In My Room
By Steven H. McGarthwaite

Every person who is a fly tyer has a dream. A dream of ultimate fly tying room, dedicated to the sole purpose of tying flies (maybe even a shop bench for fly rod making). A bright, airy room, with lots of wall space and shelving to store and house materials and tying equipment. Bookshelves with folders, books, and manuscripts, on Fly Tying, and Fly Patterns. Maybe a computer to store and catalog patterns and search the internet for info or to converse with other anglers on line. To cocoon during the times when you cannot go fishing, relaxing in a environment with familiar things surrounding you.

Well! WAKE UP! It will not happen, if you don't start planning. Some of you have to hoard all your supplies equipment in a closet or on some shelf in the garage. Waiting for that special time when the wife ("She who must be obeyed," AKA: SWMBO), or significant other is out of the house for the weekend. Then you can pull your "stuff" out and set up shop.

If there is no place in the house, because your place is overrun with 'Rugrats,' then think about the 'Great Back Yard.' Equipment Sheds that you build, from plans and materials at the lumberyards, may be the ticket. A little insulation, couple of windows and power run from the house - you could go 'upscale,' or you can just start off with a basic shed.

To become a happy 'Tyer of Flies,' it is important to have a place you can call your own. Where you can shut the door and come back anytime you want to continue your pursuit of the Art of Fly Tying.

My room

"All I want, is a room somewhere, far away from the cold night air. With one enormous chair, oh, wouldn't it be loverly..."

If you have any questions, tips, or techniques; send them along. Someone else thought up most of this material before we did, they just forgot to tell anyone about it. Or else we just forgot about it, while learning something else. Let us share with each other, all the things we know! ~ Steven H. McGarthwaite (Chat Room AKA Parnelli)
