I came up with this idea while wrapping "The Creature"
by Gary La Fontaine
(FOTW #193). Gary called for wrapping the hook
shank with yarn, and I thought why not try it for securing
Non-Lead Wire? I always hated the effort and time it
takes to wrap the weighted wire with thread. Back and
forth, over and over again, and when you think you got
it completely covered, you flip it over and see all the uncovered
wire on the bottom of the hook shank. We are talking
about a lot of thread wraps here, and a very twisted thread.
Thanks to Gary, I now have an easier way.
Wrap your Non-Lead wire, around the hook shank.
Then trim the tag ends and push the ends together.
Now do a Lock wrap behind the length on Non-Lead wire.
Wrap forward over the wire, then reverse the wrap back to the rear.
Hang the bobbin with the yarn off of the vise out of the way,
and do the lock wrap with your thread.
Now clip off the tag ends and proceed to curve of hook.
I really think you will like this way of doing the wrap, if you
want you can also use head cement on the yarn to make it
even more secure. ~ Parnelli
