Just read the tip for making eyes with dabs of paint. I have a way of
making eyes which would be somewhat smaller, but would still not be small
enough for #16 flies.
Take a piece of monofilament (10 pound test, or larger) and hold the end
of the line near to a flame for a few seconds. There will appear on the end
of the line a small dot of melted monofilament.
This can be colored if desired, and tied in as is for small flies. If
you want an eye for a larger fly, but not any great increase in weight,
obtain some seed beads (I usually use yellow, but many colors are available)
and thread one onto the monofilament.
Pull it up tight to the melted end of the monofilament and tie onto the
hook in the position you want (two of these are tied in at once to obtain
binocular vision for the fly so it can find fish better).
A drop of head cement on the wrappings and on the seed bead will hold the
whole thing on for use.
I don't know if the fish find these more attractive, but I do and
therefore I fish with them more. ~ Tom Wilson
