What is a Rogue's Gallery? It is a name I have given to a board, where I
display a sample of a fly which I have tied. I do this for several reasons.
Mostly, I display the flies so I can identify what I have already tied,
so I will have a model to use if I want to tie the same pattern again. I
also use the gallery to identify flies that are in one of my many fly boxes
to help figure out, what they are.
It is easy to construct a Rogues Gallery, and not that expensive. Along
with the Tying Bench Logbook, it is really indispensable to the fly tier.

You can construct your Gallery out of almost any material. I have used
"Tack Board," because it is stiff and the foam can be used to hang the flies.
I cut narrow strips of the "Tack Board" and then using double-sided tape,
to affix the strips to the backboard.
When I tie a new fly, I list it in my logbook and attach a tag to the
fly (thin wire work wonderfully), and reference it to the index page and
reference page, with the same number.
The peace of having a system to cut down on the disorder
inherent with tying flies makes the whole process even more enjoyable.
Of course you can design yours anyway you wish, that is the whole
point of this Tying Tips column.
