This series of lessons will cover every style of fly that
is tied for Salmon or Steelhead by the time it is complete
(if it ever is). We are inviting anyone who ties these flies
to show the fishing and tying fraternity your patterns. It
will achieve several things for the Tyer and reader, you
will be helping those who follow and learn what we more
experienced Tyers already know. This is important on several
levels. We can hopefully increase the numbers of fly fishermen
and Tyers at a time when our sport/hobby is under attack by
groups who would take away our activities. Also, we can build
on the expanding knowledge base of this fascinating pastime.
Second, you will get the satisfaction of having thousands of
fellow Tyers see what you can do.
FAOL is in every way a real magazine even though it isn't
printed on paper or sold on newsstands. Every week, this
publication adds new articles and information which is archived
for immediate retrieval by anyone who has access to the internet.
No other kind of publication that I know of offers this. Were
you to print out the knowledge contained within the "covers"
of FAOL, I dare say that many hundreds or, possibly thousands,
reams of paper would be quickly consumed. Of course, we don't
have to do this to get what we need from it.
As I write this, FAOL is about to celebrate its fifth anniversary.
A lot has been achieved in those five years and many times
more is yet to be done. This is why I am encouraging anyone who
wants to become part of this project to do so. I will do my best
to include every fly, tying tip, article or other material that
I receive.

I am sure I have left some potential category of fly out
but, I am also sure someone will suggest more. Even though
a particular topic has been posted, we will continue to add
to it as time goes on. So, if you have some hair wing flies
or Speys or any others that you think we would like to see,
send them to me.
Believe me when I say that it is difficult to get "published"
in the print media. As difficult as that may be, it is equally
easy to be "published" here at FAOL. I will do everything I
can to help you with that process.
In the upcoming months, we will be adding material from well
known and not so well known folks. This is your chance to join
them and make this series everything it can be.
