Here's a tip from the May/June 2000 issue of RodMaker magazine:
"To detect burrs on dressed guide feet, rub the guides on a dark colored magazine
cover or other similar smooth, hard, paper surface. Press hard, relatively briskly,
several times. Any burrs will show up as either scratches or thin, light colored tears
on the hard paper surface.
Rub the guide feet, first flat and then on edge, at approximately 5 degrees and
then at 25 degrees to detect burrs or a knife edge. Don't forget to check the
tip and tip edges of the guide feet as well.
One should find this a quick and easy method to confirm the guide feet have
been properly dressed and are free from burrs which can cause damage to
the blank." ~ George Kalhust, Lafeyette, IN
