Here's a tip from the May/June 2000 issue of RodMaker magazine:
"I don't know what the pro's do, but when I'm using my rod wrapper for those damnable
tiny tips I don't get as good a wrap as I want. ANY pressure on the thread cause the
tip to bend out of a straight line . . . and when I preform my tie-off it seems that I
get a 'bunch' or a cluster of thread looking like a bump. Soooo . . .
What I've been doing is using a fly tying bobbin, loaded with the same thread as the
rest of the wraps, but using the bobbin just like I was winding thread on the shank
of the hook. I get the neat non-bunching wrap I want - no sideways pressure
because I'm wraping the thread 'around' the tip section as compared to 'on' the tip
from the sideways direction of my thread carriage.
