My First Fish!

By Aaron Solomonson, Arlington, MN

We get down there and I get into my hip boots and get out my spinning rod and reel. We get about 750 yds. up the river and we come to a long pool on the side of a cliff. My uncle spotted a nice fish at the tail end of the pool.

He said, "Aaron would you like to try fly-fishing?"

I said sure, so he handed me the rod and gave me instructions on casting and where to put the #14 Pheasant Tail Nymph.

First cast was way off. It landed in a deep riffle and nothing happened. I picked it up and cast it ahead of the pool it drifted down in there the fish didn't move. I did it a second time. This time the fish turned and took the fly he took off up the pool.

My uncle told me to raise the rod slightly so I did.

5 minutes later I pulled in the 16 inch rainbow. ~ Aaron Solomonson
