Fishing only two and a half days this week ..(partly due to the weather) was still very
good. Monday we fished the Permit again and found them at the cuts off
the north side of Ceaser's Creek Channel. Having eight good shots at crusing
fish and three shots at tailing fish produced two prizes. We caught and
released a 33 pound on a live crab and a 22+ pound fish on
a merkin crab variation. I have been tying these in a real light tan wool
on a # 6 hook, and marking the outer edges with a brown marker for
a hightlight. Well not a real different approach ... but its working!!!
Don't forget the elastic band legs .
The Snook bite has been very slow with the massive high tides we have been having
.... whats up with this ... are the polar caps melting .. or what? The
water temps are cooling off a little and the bait is all over the place.
We have Snooking mostly at night in the mangroves cuts around the north
tip of Key Largo, at Ocean Reef. The boy's at Grand Slam Outfitters have
been catching the Snook with live pilchards at night. I have also been
using small lady fish caught on fly at the docks at Homestead Bayfront
Park. Before running across the bay, I go up into the cut by the
docks and get a half dozen ladies to intice the Snook. With good
results.
