AMERICAN MUSEUM OF FLY FISHING
One of the great organizations that preserves and promotes the sport of fly fishing in America is the American Museum of Fly Fishing located in Manchester, Vermont. They maintain a huge collection of historic fly fishing memorabilia and sponsor traveling exhibits of their collection around the country. In addition, four times each year they publish The American Fly Fisher publication that is sent to all members. It always contains many interesting articles about pioneers in our sport and this month they have a very interesting article on Vernon S. “Pete” Hidy, the man that worked with James Leisenring and helped to promote his fly tying ideas. This 19 page article is written by Hidy’s son, Lance Hidy and gives a detailed account of his father’s collaboration with Leisenring and all of his own numerous contributions to the sport of fly fishing. Hidy is one of those unsung heroes of our sport and this article gives him much needed recognition.
If you are interested in the history of our sport you should be a member of the American Museum of Fly Fishing. You can find more information online at www.amff.org.
