Sometimes the FAOL staff has something to share with our readers that doesn't quite fit in a normal category. These items can be found here. |
SEASON 17 BEGINS
With the publication of this issue of FAOL we mark the beginning of our 17th year on the Internet.
Much has changed in the intervening years since the Ladyfisher put together that first issue and posted it online. At that time the worldwide web was a new thing and the idea that anyone would support or even read an online magazine was highly speculative.
Today there are several other online magazines, blogs, chatrooms and the like. Many of the newer endeavors are flashier than FAOL, they have paid editorial staffs and production budgets that are larger than the income that we make in an entire year. FAOL continues to operate with a "staff" of two people – both unpaid – and some faithful administrators – also unpaid – that monitor the bulletin board. We have a small cadre of writers – also unpaid – that continue to supply us with copy. We have been fortunate to have several faithful sponsors that continue to provide the funds to pay for the server that keeps FAOL on the web.
To all of those faithful writers, the sponsors, and our unpaid IT man, Ron Tidd, I say thank you. It is for you, our readers, that we continue to put up a new issue of FAOL every two weeks, and it is our intention to continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Thank you all for your continuing support. We couldn't do it without you.
