Individual taste in books varies as much as the favorite rod or fly. With that in mind, we hope to review books and videos from the ever-growing fly fishing world, and share them with you. Books will be the best of all worlds, new and old. Many of the old books are now available in reprint, and the wisdom contained is timely today. Others can be found in second-hand book stores, or by mail order dealers. As we find videos we feel are outstanding they will be included. Be assured, reviews are based on what we have actually read or viewed, and due to that fact, may not appear weekly.

Book Review - Trout and their food - Flyanglers Online - March 22, 2010

Dave Whitlock needs no introduction. His name is familiar to anyone that has ever read any major outdoor magazine in the last 30 years. He is the author of countless articles and several books. His illustrations have appeared in numerous publications including his long running column in Trout, the publication of Trout Unlimited. This book is a compilation of those columns, gathered and organized in a single volume.

Dave has the unique distinction of being a fine angler, educator, author and artist. What separates’ him from most angling authors is his illustrations. His illustrations are so detailed that they look like they are alive. He makes his writing come alive with his illustrations.

While this book deserves a place on every angler’s bookshelf it is especially suited for the beginning trout angler. Although it is primarily a book about the food trout eat there is a section about the life history of trout, and a section about how trout see, rise forms and reading the water.
