Individual taste in books varies as much as the favorite rod or fly. With that in mind, we hope to review books and videos from the ever-growing fly fishing world, and share them with you. Books will be the best of all worlds, new and old. Many of the old books are now available in reprint, and the wisdom contained is timely today. Others can be found in second-hand book stores, or by mail order dealers. As we find videos we feel are outstanding they will be included. Be assured, reviews are based on what we have actually read or viewed, and due to that fact, may not appear weekly.

Reviews - Fly Tying made clear and simple II

Skip Morris is a well-known name in the world of modern fly-fishing and fly tying literature. The author of a number of popular books covering everything from angling entomology to fly-fishing for trout in lakes he is best known for his ‘how to’ books on fly tying techniques. His most recent contribution is a follow-up to his original book by the same title, which is now in its 22nd printing.

While similar to the first book this new edition includes tying instructions for such popular patterns as the Copper John, the old standby for many anglers fishing Western rivers – the Bitch Creek nymph, and a new method of tying the Chernobyl Ant.

The book is printed with a spiral binding which allows it to lay flat next to your fly tying bench so that you can see each step of the tying process. Gray-colored bars located next to the tying instructions are numbered to match the correlating tying steps and photos.

Although I personally question the need for another “how to” fly tying book this book is well done, and for anyone looking for a book that not only shows you how to tie specific patterns but also gives the reader valuable tying techniques that are applicable to all types of fly tying this book is worth owning.
