Silver King Award

Jeff Pierce, known to many of our readers as "Dr.Fish" was honored by the Federation of Fly Fishers recently with the presentation of the Silver King Award. Jeff has been a faithful contributor to our Bulletin Board as well as author of several great articles for Fly Anglers OnLine. His latest was PARADISE FOUND: The Dry Tortugas Are Indeed An Anglers Nirvana.

Jeff Pierce is the Sales Manager of Fly-Fishing Products for O. Mustad & Son (USA), Inc and Partridge of Redditch. He is the Captain of Team Mustad USA and is a diehard angler and fly tier. Jeff is married to Stacy, father of 2 children, and lives in upper New York state. He has traveled from Buffalo to Borneo in search of finned quarry.

The Silver King Award is named after a highly prized saltwater trophy, the tarpon. The award is not presently annually, but is presented when an individual who has made extraordinary contributions to the sport of saltwater angling is nominated. The requirements include unselfish promotion of saltwater fly fishing.

The award has only been given five times in the years since it's inception in 1994. Previous winners are:

    Lefty Kreh 1994
    Dan Blanton 1995
    Bruce Ferguson 1996
    Jon Cave 1999
    Phil Shook 2000
Jeff says he was "shocked and VERY, VERY excited. It is a great honor and a great feeling to be recognized in such a way."

Congratulations Jeff! A tip of the FAOL hat to both you and Mustad! ~ DLB
