Too Tall for Keyholes

Thank you for the notes, emails and good wishes. Much appreciated - they do help. I would have expected to be pretty much on the mend by now, the surgery was August 16th. So far I haven't had a night or day for that matter, when I wasn't either up when I should have been sleeping, or vice versa. I was warned by my surgeon and friends who had gone through the shoulder problems there were going to be some difficult times. Okay, so I learned a lot on this one. I've got the big anatomy book out and when I go in for my check-up I will ask the surgeon to show me. I know, it really isn't any of my business, but I'm just really nosey.

On the column title, one of my interesting little things to come out of this batch of medical problems is I really am too tall for keyholes (and too short for transoms, as the old joke goes.). Actually I've shrunk. Not unusual for my age, we do shrink as we age, but, I've lost two and a half inches. I think that's a lot. I don't see me stretching any time soon, so I'm probably stuck with five foot six inches for height.

Here are a couple of things which occupied my mind while 'recooperating.' The first one is an indication that person just isn't getting out fishing enough.

A while back I mentioned I had grown an interesting plant - the Angel Wings, also called Angel Trumpet, and technically a brugmansia, it is a member of the nightshade family and just so pretty it seems unreal. They do bloom at night so more fun to watch. All brand new to us, you may be old hands at growing something this large, but it is just neat. It will be something else to see how it fares when the weather turns cold. And if we can successfully over winter it here.

We have received several new books while I've been on the disabled list, and I'm working my way through those, you will find a book review up this week on How to Catch the Biggest Trout of Your Life . Castwell did this one, and says the book is extremely well done.

The doctor tells me I have another month in the sling before I can go in for therapy - and if anything goes wrong I can cast with my 'off-hand' and the Idaho Fish-In is coming up!

I also want to mention we should have been celebrating our tenth anniversary this week, starting on our 11th year. But I would like to do something special, and since I'm not quite recovered, I'm going to put our Anniversary Issue on hold for a week or two. But I promise something entirely different when we do that.

Thanks again for all your concern - stay tuned, more to come. ~ The LadyFisher
