I've just gone through a few days of personal
hades, (insert whatever works for you), there
must be some description of the misery one goes
through when their computer dies and is being
replaced. Oh yes, that one. I think the last
computer survived for two years, and don't think
I'm as hard on a computer as folks who do a lot
of graphics or play games. At any rate it was
dying and my husband, JC, after consulting with
our guru Ron, ordered a new puter from Dell. I
didn't need a new monitor, the one I have is big
and just dandy.
He did order a new keyboard, and I like it. The
new mouse is a bust, I had a good one, and I'll
get him to change back one day this week. The
new one has two buttons on the left side which
make the page skip up or down - and I keep hitting
it with the side of my thumb. I'm confused enough,
having the page skip by doesn't help.
I really am amazed. The new puter is very fast,
has a lot of memory and about five times the size
of hard drive as the last one. Will make my life
easier. I hope.
I say that because in making the change over, somehow
my address book for my email was not transferred. The
old hard drive has migrated to Ron's house, and it will
probably take a miracle to save it now. So I will do
my best to not bother anyone, most of our correspondence
does go out to FAOL folks and sponsors, and I can find
those pretty easily.
I do want to mention how quiet the new computer is.
Wow. The old one had three fans and was very noisy,
had to have the tv up loud if I wanted to hear
anything at all. This is a treat! Maybe I don't
need a hearing aid after all.
Not having a computer working is a lot like having
a sick car. I think I feel just as miserable as you
do when your wheels aren't working right. And then,
having to depend on someone else to install it - just
a nightmare. I know Ron knows what he is doing - but
it doesn't help. Just feel/felt like a poor lost soul.
Out of control, computerless in Seattle.
Obviously the new 'box' is working, or I wouldn't
be doing a new issue. But I get to whine once in
a while. I promise I won't do it again soon. In
the meantime, pat me on my little pointed head and
tell me it's going to be alright.
I'll try and believe you. ~ The LadyFisher
