The temperature was almost sixty degrees - mid February.
In fact, wonder of all, a very large bumblebee flew past
as I worked in the yard. I know there is a cut-off
temperature when they can't fly, but they are so amazing
it is a wonder they get off the ground (or where ever they
dwell). The point of mentioning the temperature at all
is that JC gets antsy and really wants to run around town
with the top of his red convertible down. He mentioned he
spotted three cars with their tops down when he went into
town for the mail yesterday.
It isn't cabin fever or the shack nasties, but it sure is
spring fever. I've been distressed with the arm in a sling
and the shoulder moaning or at least complaining far too
long - so I have been bad. Maybe not too bad, I'm sure
I'll hear about it from my surgeon on Tuesday. I have been
able to rake with one hand (sort of) and actually cleaned up
most of the back yard.
What I'm really good at however, is sorting through the
mass of catalogs with photographs of wonderful blooming
bulbs, flowers, shrubs and trees. We really get a bunch
of catalogs, and I made a list. I still have one more
order to place, but I know I'm in trouble even before I
order those. I think I've run out of room. Well unless
I can talk someone into digging up more places to plant.
Hmmm, that doesn't seem too likely.
But then there are always pots.
I don't have permission to fish yet, but I expect to be
allowed - perhaps with required therapy, but since we don't
have any local fish 'in season' so to speak. Our next big
opportunity to do any serious fishing will be the Central
Washington Fish-In, May 8th through the 11th.
If you live in the region at all, do consider coming over
at least for a day. Rocky Ford is just an outstanding fishery,
and one which should not be missed. Just briefly, Rocky Ford
is a spring creek, owned by the state of Washington. It is free,
not a pay for play, with a marvelous head of catchable fish.
I'm not saying it is easy to catch the fish there, but with
a little work and attention you too can enjoy the wonderful
rainbows of Rocky Ford. You would be most welcome, and you
would have the pleasure of meeting some very nice folks.
