A LITTLE CONSDIERATION

Every once in a while a post will appear on the Bulletin Board which is highly complementary to FAOL in general or to the administration. We have a couple on Sound Off right now which are so very nice it almost looks like we could have hired someone to say such great things. We didn’t of course but they do make the point which I was going to write about this week for me.

Have you noticed how often someone who has a problem finding something can ask on the board and someone will have whatever is needed - or know exactly where to find it? How often another person has an 'extra' or 'spare' which they don't need? 

Ever read through the Things Wanted section and realize how many things are actually found?  Many, which folks have offered to purchase, are acquired free?

People looking for inexpensive rods or outfits for getting kids started find those outfits available just for asking. No not every time, but more often than you might expect.

People with problems of one kind or another, including very poor health and what appears to be terminal cancer find thoughtful encouragement and gentle kindness here which is very rare in today's world. It would be easy to dismiss it all as part of the Christmas season, but I know that is not the case. It is likely you will find a prayer request on our Bulletin Board any time of the year. Folks know we take those requests very seriously.

It lives here on FAOL twelve months a year.

That is 'it'? 

I feel the need to say thank you to all the people who run and use FAOL for the level of civility, decency, and helpfulness that is to be found here. I have other interests than fly fishing, and frequent a number of good forums for them, but nowhere and I do mean nowhere, do you find the caliber of people and behavior that you find at FAOL. It says a great deal about the administrators and the members. It is a rare treasure, and should be protected as such. No site is perfect, and little flames will always develop, but I'd put this site up against any other.

And for that folks, our sincere thanks to each of you. I know you have heard it before, but just so you don't forget... I believe fly fishers are a very special group of people. Just the nicest group of people you would ever want to meet. You have had the pleasure of interacting with at least some here on FAOL, and perhaps had the pleasure of meeting even more in person via a fish-in or just on a stream or at some local event. I believe that, as a whole, there are less bad apples and idiots in fly fishing than in the general population.

For that I am grateful, there’s nothing like a little gratitude to improve one's general outlook and attitude. Thank you one and all, you are the ones who make FAOL.
