End of Season? NOT!
Ok, the season is over, and your
casting is still not what you wish it was.
No matter; you didn't get that new rod you
were going to ... or that reel ...and you didn't
get to that stream ... That's the way things go.
Too late now to worry about it.
NOT!
So it's cold outside; warm inside. One of the best ways you WILL
improve is to ... teach ...
I know, I know. You're not sure what you are doing now! How can YOU
teach? By now, you know at least three others that don't know as much as
you. Get in touch with them. Set up a meeting at your house. Tell them you
are just in this stuff a little way and you would like to start a "meeting" once
a week for six, or eight weeks, to take it a little farther.
Go out and rent a casting video, one on tying, or fly fishing. Keep the
fire of interest going. If you don't tie yet; get into it! Make a 'group'
purchase order. Start something, don't wait for someone else to do it for
you.
What's coming soon? Yup, the big gift day. What would improve your
casting? A book? How about a new fly line, or better yet, A NEW FLY
ROD? Start making a list of EXACTLY what you would like. That may mean
you will have to do some looking around. Start now. Give yourself time to do
it right. Remember when you wanted something a while ago and the reply
was, "not right now, you know what is coming soon."
I am sure your S.O. would not want you to be out fishing with your
friends and not look good due to poor equipment? You could leave your
name and selection ideas at the fly shop, kind of like a 'bridal registry.'
Worth a shot ... If they don't have one, suggest they start one.
The main point here is just this. Stay focused. Don't let seasonal weather
stop the progress you have made so far. Keep the interest in the sport. Stay
up with what is happening to the fishery. Join a club. Go to a few meetings.
When the next season comes around you will be all fired up and rearin' to
