WAR
By James Castwell

Make no mistake about it; we are at war. I don't like it, no one asked me. I have the same emotions you have. I am hurt, and I will stay hurt for quite a while. Nothing will make it better. Not revenge, not justice, not fly-fishing, nothing. I try to focus on work, things I need to do to bring you this web site each week. My concentration is that of a five year old's. I didn't want to write this, I wanted to write about fly-fishing stuff. I can't. I have not missed a column in over four years, now this.

I am scared, my reality has been disrupted, my thoughts have been stolen and replaced with things I don't want to think about. I have little or no control over the events which shape my life. Travel will be changed for me. Will I ever get on a plane again with the same exuberance as in the past? Will I be afraid to turn on the evening news for fear of what I may find out? Without a doubt, life in America will never be the same. But, it will continue to be the very best life in the world, of that I am firmly convinced.

There will be conflict between our country and some others, guilty and innocent people will die. Over that I have no control. "Man's inhumanity toward man." It's a shame we can not continue here in America as before, but we can not. Civilizations are always changing, and progressing and moving ahead in many ways. We shall do likewise.

It is not only America which has changed;

The world has changed.

May your God give you direction, strength, wisdom and above all, peace. ~ James Castwell

Till next week, remember . . .
