Every year the manufacturers of your fly
fishing goodies descend on a central city
to show off what's new. Denver, Colorado
gets the nod again this year. Fly shop owners
from everywhere inside and some from outside
our country will jam the aisles searching for
things they hope you would buy if they put them
in their shop.
Big gamble. Drop a few items, add a few others.
Expand and deepen a rising company, and closeout
another. There is only so money and so many customers.
How to juggle it and make a profit is not easy.
We usually go to the show but not this year, going
to the 'Fish-In' instead. Fact is, we were going to
make both, but they moved theirs so we can't do it.
So this gives me a chance to do something differently.
I like to see what the guys at the shows think of the
new things, especially the fly rods. Since we are
going to have our own group in Idaho on the 19th of
September, I am going to offer an unusual experience
to some at the 'Fish-In.'
You're probably aware that a new Sage TXL 00 rod, reel
and line are on this months drawing. Fantastic award.
I have one here with me right now as I write this.
Tomorrow I will take a few pictures of it for a
product review. I plan to join it up and do some
lawn-casting, check it all over, really take my time.
Then I will take it to the 'Fish-In' next week and
see how the guys there like it. Some may fish it,
some just wiggle or cast it. All will have something
to say about it though. That is what I will try to
bring back here.
Now what you should do it this. Get down to your fly
shop and let them know that you want to see the new
Sage TXL. Chances they are going to the Denver show
and can make sure you and your buddies are not left
out. They may already have them on order as the reps
have been out for a short time already. But, make
sure you are not left out. These are cute little fellas.
When a fly rod makes me think of places to fish it,
that is not a bad thing.
The 3100 reel is very light and its large diameter
makes a good companion for the rod, with the 'double-zero'
fly line completing the package quite nicely. Going
to be fun. I'll let you know how it all works out. ~ JC
