THE WORLD IS AMAZING!
The Discovery Channel in Canada has a catchy commercial. It shows a couple of astronauts up in space looking down on the Earth. Spontaneously, they break out in song. (Google: I love the whole world to see what I’m talking about).
Anyway, this week I did an end run from Home out to Goose Bay for the day job. As I was making my way out from Southern Quebec, through Quebec City, transiting the Charlevoix Region, along the Quebec North Shore, turn Left North for 400 km then Right for another 10 hours, I just couldn’t get the darn song out of my head.
I got to have a quick look at places I will come back to in a few weeks. Places that inspire awe and dreams for anglers; Fermont, Labrador City/Wabush, Churchill Falls and Happy Valley!
As I worked my way out of the scattered lakes of the Yellow Birch mixed fir forest, over the Eastern Boreal Black Spruce region and into the near Tundra, I was just amazed by the diversity and beauty of my little corner of Paradise!

Of course, as I drove through I noted the various salmon rivers and outfitters in the area. I crossed the rivers: Gouffre, Escoumins and Betsiamites among others. Once I turned North at Bay Comeau, I stopped naming the rivers. One does seem to notice however when you cross the Churchill River!

After 12 hours on the road, two thirds of the run is behind me!
Hitting the Labrador border between Fermont and Labrador City!!!
There was not a whole lot of traffic and the only problem was when I had to slow down to let this fellow and 20 of his friends cross the road!
The local pedestrian population!
Now while I’m driving, I do have time to reflect. If it’s not thinking about the job, well, ... it’s thinking about fishing!! I did bring along a couple rods (well, 6) just in case. The rivers and water courses up above the 52nd parallel are pretty well iced in still. Then again, I’m coming back out East in a few weeks, so I’ll plan the run better to get in an afternoon of fishing.
Now I get to explore lots while I’m running around for the day job, ... and we DO have several helicopters to kind of explore a bit more with. Then again, there is surely plenty for you to explore in your neck of the woods too!
As an example, while I’m looking to hit a couple hot spots on my way out later this week (2,000 km from home!), the fishing is just fine about 10 minutes from the house on the Shawinigan River for Browns and Bows. The local association have rehabilitated the river over the past decade or so. I just have to find time to go out and explore it!
So think about how wonderful the world really is. It is just amazing.
It also starts right in your very own back yard!
Tight Lines to you all.
Have fun, play hard and come home safe!
