A War On Us
By Al Campbell

How do you feel about the United States being at war? Do you support the decision or are you against it? If you are against it, do you still support the troops, knowing they are there to support their Commander in Chief? What does any of this have to do with flyfishing?

This war really has little to do with flyfishing, but it has a lot to do with a couple of groups who are determined to end our fishing tradition. On March 19, 2003, Craig Rosebraugh declared war on the United States in response to the US involvement in Iraq. For those who don't know who Craig is, he is the spokesman for an eco-terrorist group called the Earth Liberation Front (ELF). He also does some spokesman type work for another eco-terrorist group called the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) that often conducts terror strikes on medical research labs and restaurants that serve meat products. Both groups receive financial and ideological support from a group called People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

Craig's declaration and instructions to his supporters came in the form of a seven-part manifesto. I'll abbreviate it somewhat, but the full text of my information source can be read at www.consumerfreedom.com/headline_detail.cfm?HEADLINE_ID=1835. Craig's seven points are as follows:

    1. Attack the financial centers of this country.

    2. Incite large scale urban rioting to draw resources away from the war in Iraq.

    3. Attack the media centers of this country using any means necessary.

    4. Spread the battle to the heads of this country and US corporations, including hostile visits to their homes.

    5. Make it known that their organization does NOT support US troops, and create the same atmosphere in the USA causing our troops to lose their morale and will to fight.

    6. Actively target US military establishments, using any means necessary to slow down their functioning.

    7. Strike hard and fast, then retreat anonymously to strike again in a new location without getting arrested.

The FBI believes the ELF and ALF have committed more than 600 terrorist acts in the USA, resulting in roughly 43 million dollars worth of damage in the last seven years. One of their favorite targets is the property of fishermen and hunters. These groups with PETA involvement incited the riots in Seattle a few years ago during an economic summit in that city. They are also suspected in the sometimes-violent protests in Oregon this last week. That is one reason that state has talked about charging those rioters with acts of terrorism, and that sentiment could travel across the country as evidence of terrorist involvement surfaces in other protests.

Now, for the cover my butt part; to link PETA funds to terrorism and the ELF. Please take a moment to look at the following links:

I'm aware that some might object to a single source for my info, but the links above will detail all the other sources that info is derived from. Interestingly, I noticed a link to the Turner Foundation's contributions to some of the groups who sponsor PETA and indirectly the ELF and ALF:

It is a tangled web of financial support and organizations that train and sponsor homeland terrorism when you look at the financial links contained at www.consumerfreedom.com. Considering the fact that Ted Turner is a fly-fisherman, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say I don't think he knows where all his money goes, and who exactly his foundation supports. However, I will say this; if you are tempted to join in one of the anti-war protests, consider who your fellow protesters are and who is stirring this pot.

And there you are; there IS a link between those who are sponsoring the anti-war protests and terrorism. This is a war against terrorism, so those folks have a reason to sponsor those protests. And, there IS a link between those who sponsor the anti-war protests and the folks who want to put an end to your right to fish.

You have a right to your opinion of the Iraq war; and frankly, I don't care what your opinion is. I think most people have a few mixed feelings about this conflict, and some may be much stronger than others both ways. However, there are some people over there giving their lives in what they believe is a war against the tyrants who want to end our lives. We have a choice; we can support our troops, we can do nothing, or we can support the homeland terrorists who have a negative interest in this war. I don't have to tell you how I feel about that one. ~ AC
