Mono thread can be bought cheaply at febrics
shops or craft stores. It can be used as a
basic wrap on hook shanks where you want the hook
shank color to come up from underneath. I use this
on my shad flies with silver hooks and translucent
pearl ribbon floss bodies. I have found that dark or
off-color thread will show through floss or other
translucent materials when wet, often changing the
look of the fly considerably. ~ HH
