Flyfisherman or not, he does appear to be quite a sportsman, and that could be a common ground. I am awed by the stamina involved in that kind of effort, and wish I could fish that hard... I hope that the celeb girlfriend isn't an indication of him "going hollywood".(Not that it's any of my business; and I like her music too!) Anyway, an absolutely amazing athletic event, and the past illness makes it really a storybook ending. Look for the movie...
