I think one of the keys with these flies is that the tinsel tag doesn't go deep into the bend as you might see on a salmon fly. The tag and body are almost always on the flat of the hook shank. Also, the variance in hook styles used for these flies makes it hard to use the point or barb as a reference.

How you tie it in, and whether you use the same piece of tinsel for the rib as the tag, is mostly personal preference.
