I think in most of the United States crappie is pronounced the "a" should be an "o". I noticed Oldster is located here in Georgia where it is pronounced with the "a" sound. I have a friend from my church who is always looking for a good light hearted argument, he ask me why in Mississippi, where I am a native, we pronounce it with the "o" sound. I told him I thought it was because of the size and number of crappie we caught was too big and plentiful to be crappy. He hasn't brought it up again.
