    Allan, seems I might have a few rows of said flies in my fly boxes. It surely seems that way at times!

    That seems like a valid argument and I'll go one step further ... Replace the word 'fly' with 'cigarette butt' and it also makes sense. However, even given the circumstances you identify, certain flies will catch more quality fish then other ones. Paraphrasing a familiar saying, 'All flies are equal, but some are more equal then others'.
