I got the ferrule off and I'm chipping the old "rod coat" off.

A lighter loosened the ferrule up enough that I could pull it off. I heated the tip top up and it shot off the end like a rocket...

The old rod coat is brittle enough that it can be chipped off of the rod. I'm using a fletching stripper to chip it away.

It's a spinning rod, but if I can remove the cork and reel seat, preferably without destroying them, I'm thinking about making a fly rod out of it.

So, my next question is. What is the best way to safely remove the cork and reel seat?

Thanks
