William, it makes sense to let big ones go. they really don't taste a good as a pan size.
Most of the time I take the fly out of their lip and toss them in the water to clean them off. Darn things keep swimming off before I can get them in the creel. I'd better find a better way, I guess.

Amen, sister. People give me strange looks when I keep the smaller (younger) fish and toss back the large (older) fish. My father taught me that not from a conservation viewpoint, but from his taste buds viewpoint.
I'll take a stringer of 18" walleye over the 27"+ fish any day.
Oh, y'all don't ever have to worry about me killing or cleaning a trout. My taste buds reject trout & salmon.

Y'all need to come down to Alabama, Big Bluegill & Shellccracker Bream taste better than any trout I ever ate.
If at first you don't succeed,go fishing, then try, try again.
Nothing I like better than a couple or three 8 to 10 inch brookies (cleaned) straight from the stream into the frying pan, maybe a little breading, maybe not, and of course butter to fry them in.
Now I made myself hungery, the snow is blowing, and I'm at work!!!
