Marlin, I think you're on the right track despite what Tim says. The 4 wt will work just fine.

Tim, I've fished a Sage 486 for more than 10 years. During that time it has landed 100's of LL Salmon, large Brook trout and SM Bass, No problems what so ever. When conditions dictate (stronger current, big flies) I'll move up to a 5 or 6 weight but that's rare. I feel as strongly as you about the use of small weight toys like 0-1-2 weights and the possible impact on fish, I have a 2 wt but almost never use it, it's just not suitable to 99% of my fishing.

No need to get sarcastic with Marlin, he knows what he doing and you just sound superior.
