I use hen hackle tips for the wings on all my dry may fly patterns. I also use hen hackle for the hackle collar on some dry flies that I fish in very smooth water. I do this for the tiny movement of the soft hackle fibers. Contrary to the opinion that hen hackle soaks up water, it can't if you apply a good water proofing agent such as Gink or Loon before you fish the fly. You should do that to any dry fly before you cast it on the water. ALL naturals materials will soak up water if they're not treated.

Good Luck!
