In the golf swing teaching arena the advent of video has increased the quality of teaching the swing tremendously.
Is video used much in analyzing a caster's technique?

Not only golf, but all kinds of sports instruction has benefited from video analysis (or self-analysis, if you want to put it that way).
I would think that many fly-casters could benefit significantly from watching themselves on video.
We first used video in our casting classes back in 1972. It does help to a point - unless the student can put a 'name' on what the motion/action is he is seeing it is hard to change that action. The trick is being able to communicate in words what vision shows and then correct the problem.

videos as a visual aid are a handy tool in that they allow the learner to see exactly what a Reach Mend or any other cast actually is.
The fun is when you tape your student and then watch their face as you play it back for them to see just what they are doing right and or wrong. Digital Cameras are great for this as the picture is available immediately and then can be viewed at leisure on ones computer.
Its when they tape you and point out that you are not stopping at twelve o'clock, and then you try to explain that you are only DRIFTING back past twelve having Unloaded the rod at twelve. The video can help to show the difference. Fly fishing is great!!
