There's a fairly good chance I'll be moving to the La Crosse area of Wisconsin in the late fall. Anyone know about the trout fishing in that area?

God's country! If you like to fish spring creeks to wild trout, you will be in business. It would take you a mear lifetime to explore all the water in that area.
I kid you not, God's country.

Hey there DD!
After checking your profile I see you're "Military" so you're probably going to Ft. McCoy. There's plenty of fishable water right on post here and like the previous post indicates, there's plenty more just outside the gate. BTW, thanks for your service to our country.

Yup I'll be there.. I think. Are you on McCoy now? What's the fishing like in the fall? When does the water become unfishable?
Streams become unfishable when:
There is a flood
The season ends (10/31)
Or, when it becomes hard (ice)
Fall does tend to become more difficult as the insect hatches become less, and less. For this guy that is the time for Steelhead, lake run Browns and of course Salmon, which I don't know if you are aware there is an abundance on the western shore of Lake Michigan, and the southern shore of Superior, all within a 3-5 hour drive from McCoy.
Mike
I didn't realize the salmon and steelhead were that close by. It's a good thing that fall/winter will be the slow part of the year for me. Damn that means I am going to need a Salmon rod!
DD,
I am not now at FT. McCoy but spent 16 weeks there 5USAAIS AIT back a "few" years ago ( MOS 96C20). Of those 16 weeks I probably squandered 11 flyfishing for trout.
