Thread: Tak's Biot Midge

    Default Tak's Biot Midge

Maybe it doesn't matter but before I get into the remaining 300 of these puppies I'm tying:

    One biot or two?

Curve side of the biot up or down?

I'd say one biot, and I would guess the curve is up. At size 20 to 28, I bet it doesnt really matter.

Heres another link to the pattern.

Got to Harry Masons site. I don't remember it right now, but he has a tutorial on using biots. Shows what you get with the biot turned each way.

    bamboozle,

The pattern calls for one biot, and you can choose to tie it either curve up or down, just depends on how you like it. Hope this helps.

    Thanks all!

I'm going with one biot curve up; I think! Fortunately I only tied a dozen the wrong way. I'm sure the fish won't mind at all .

Hmmmm, one recipe says dun, another says grizzly, and another says either color. One recipe says "biot", another says "biots". Both recipes are from the originator(Rick Takahashi).

Maybe Rick will chime in as to the proper way to tie this fly.

tie it to match the size and color of the bugs at the water you fish.

things are pretty simple the less you think about them.

Well I decided that the fish are going to take them the way I tied them, one biot curve up!

I guess it doesn't matter in the long run; it's not like I'm trying to win the Irish Fly Tying competition or something; I'm just trying to fool some fish into taking and fool myself into believing I'll solve another streamside problem.

Thanks again all for the input!
